I have a 2018 altitude 4x4 automatic with 36k miles. People who are untrained driving a stick often abuse the clutch using the flywheel as a brake by engaging the clutch at an rpm much too high for the gear. Don't shift to slow down.

A worn pinion bearing noise indicates excessive clearance with the ring gear, generating a humming or whine. The transmission fluid inside might have to be replaced.

The crap hd oil does well enough. It is most pronounced from below 3000rpm until i either stop or accelerate.

I don’t hear the noise when i’m. For other gears its not necessarily uncommon or bad, but it may also not be the trans gears whining.

A gearbox whine will be predictable, will change in relation to revs, higher revs higher pitched. The whine you’re hearing could be caused from a low fluid level, a clog, or a failing solenoid.

It now has about 237k miles and the whine has not gotten any worse, that i can tell anyway. My hf hearing has gotten worse so maybe i just can’t hear it as well.
