Gear Linkage Problems. The stock harley shifter linkage will fail on you at some point. Hi guys, i have recently replaced the selector housing for my a3 1.8, the housing had shattered at each bolt causing the selector tower to drop down while i was driving.

I tried taking it through the gears which again felt very light, until i realised i was actually able to go through the gears without the use of my clutch. Then get a 4.5mm drill bit and insert it into the hole while twisting the gear linkage get a mate to jiggle the gear stick side to side a little.

The linkage can become loose under normal operating conditions because of automobile vibration and gear shifting. On the other hand, if you notice clashing gears when downshifting, perhaps the issue is due to worn synchronizer or too much pressure in.

The system 'converts' the left/right and forward/back movements into the correct gear selection at the gearbox. After you start the vehicle and try to shift it into gear, if the gear selector will not move then there is a problem with your shift selector cable.

So removed the battery tray and bolted the gear linkage bracket back into it's place and connected the gear linkage cable but now i find that the gear stick sits all the way to the left (which means i can't get to 3, 5 or reverse). I strongly suggest you replace your shifter linkage as soon as you by a harley with a quality aftermarket shift linkage.
